We called ahead to reserve our kayaks/canoes. We normally always float the Jacks Fork and the Current rivers, and were very excited to try out the James River. We quickly found their pricing is a lot higher than what we are used to. Upon arrival around 12pm on Saturday, it was VERY busy. We waited about 30 minutes for a bus to return to load us. It was a smaller bus to which they tried to fit around 60 people on. The bus was full and they still needed to load a group of 16. One of the ladies employed there came on the bus after about 20 minutes of everyone about to suffocate, keep in mind it was 90+ degrees outside. She was rude telling people we were going to somehow fit these 16 more people on our bus. We had our German Shepherd with us and ended up having to get off of the bus just so we could breathe. With paddles, life jackets, and coolers packed in the bus isle, people were tripping and shoved in like sardines. Needless to say, they had to take 2 buses. After finally arriving, the disorganization continued. We float almost every weekend and I've never rented equipment that the employees do not unload for you and carry the kayaks/canoes to the river for you. We were searching for the trash bags, trying to make sure we had enough paddles, and finally figured out we had to go pull our kayak's/canoes. It was a MESS. The float itself wasn't bad. The river itself is pretty. We still prefer floating in the Eminence area. It's not near as crowded as what the James River is, and there's way less paddling involved due to the currents of the river. James River's currents are non existent. This will be the last time we use this business due to the bus experience and pricing.

Different reservation details brought to the register 3 times in a row (somehow they found a different result each time they looked); they stated that we just had to deal with the fact that they'd overbooked themselves (after confirming our reservations the day before), and were nothing but rude and condescending when we were polite and conciliatory.

They were very, very busy on the day we were there. I suspect that things move more smoothly when they aren't being hammered.

I've never camped at the grounds, because it is so close to home. It is quite popular and always seems to be busy.

Would use a more organized, professional outfitter. This business didn't seem capable of running their business.

The float itself was nice, simple. Good for us with young children.

Just trying to pay took a bit over an hour, as they failed to fulfill their reservations and tried to insist on upselling us.

Excellent facilities! We had our own Kayaks and for a fee of 10 per person they drove us up river and we did a casual float back to camp. Beautiful scenery...very relaxing. Next time we will do the 11mile float! I highly recommend this campground!

The river itself was nice enough - calm and slow.

No bags were provided, we unloaded our own crafts.
